| Qingshuiyan Qingshuiyan was built in the 6th year of Yuanfeng’s reign in the Northern Song Dynasty (AD 1083) and repaired in the 43rd year of Jiajing’s reign in the Ming Dynasty. It is famous for its unique spring and rock and is titled as the No.1 mountain of Penglai. Qingshuiyan, formerly known as Zhangyan, covers an area of 11.1 km2. Master Chen Puzu from Hushan, Yongchun County in Northern Song Dynasty cultivated himself and renamed this place and built the temple here. Inn 1101, he died. Local people carved an agalwood figure for piously worship and called him Qingshui Master. With the migration of local people, they worship him separately. Now there are about 60 temples of Qingshui Master in Taiwan. Qingshui Master is also worshiped in overseas Chinese accumulation area of southeast Asia, such as famous “snake temple” in Penang, Malaysia. The temple of Qingshuiyan is built with the hill at the back and overlooks the deep gully. It has three floors, among which, the first floor is Haotiankou (for worshipping heaven), the second floor is Zushidian (for worshipping the master) and the third floor is Shijialou (for worshiping Buddha). Two sides of these three floors have Tanyue Hall, Guanyin Hall and Fangming Hall. Behind the temple there is bone ash “vacuum tower” of Qingshui Master built in the Song Dynasty and there is a square pavilion with three brims newly built above the temple. The temple has walls built with red bricks and graphite tiles. High buildings and overlapped pavilions are elegant and magnificent, hidden in the peak with green pines and verdant bamboos and wreathing mists. There are many unique scenic spots nearby Qingshuiyan, including “Shizihou” (rock taking the shape of lion throat), “Clear Water Drop Curtain” (clear water flows forever and there are mountains around with peaks rising one after another), “Zhizhixiangbei” (it refers to ancient camphor trees which face towards north since they knew ancient Chinese hero Yue Fei fell into the clutches of enemy according to the legend), “Podocarpus macrophyllus”, “Jiaoting” (it is a pavilion used by people to have a rest), “Shiligui”, “Rock Carving” (it refers to the relief of the full view of Qingshuiyan finished in the Ming Dynasty and is a precious ancient “tourist map”), “Sanzhong Temple” (for worshiping three loyal ministers Zhang Xun, Xu Yuan and Yue Fei). Going upward along the mountain foot, you can see Banling Pavilion, Boundary Guard Palace, Stone Cassock, Stone Boat, Stone Mortar, Stone Dog and the like n a variety of shapes. Behind the temple there are four skyscraping stalagmites, and it is seemed as a marvelous spectacle.
